There are many reasons why people are turning to the Latex Mattress as an alternative to uncomfortable innerspring mattresses and smelly memory foam. The latex mattress has become more affordable than ever and it has allowed many people to realize the advantages that latex offers. This growing awareness has added to the (well earned) popularity.
One of the most important benefits to any solid-core mattress is the alleviation of pressure points. Unlike a coil-spring or innerspring mattress, a latex core bed has solid layers of support throughout. A spring mattress presses back against you and creates pressure points and hot-spots where you are heaviest and where your body requires the mattress to give the most. A latex mattress, on the other hand is most compliant where you need it to be.
By conforming to the shape of your body (like the famous memory foam mattresses) latex will support your body along your whole shape and will uniquely conform to each sleeper. This makes a latex mattress feel unlike any other kind of bed. Many chronic insomniacs find deep restful sleep after transitioning to a latex mattress.
In this respect a latex mattress is very similar to a memory mattress. Latex however has two additional advantages over memo foam. Botanic latex is all-natural and is made into a foam layer though the production process, not with the addition of any chemicals or other potential sources of allergens or irritants. Many people complain of a chemical smell associated with memory foam that can take months to fully dissipate. This is especially true for people with very sensitive smell or those who are very sensitive to perfumes and dyes.
Although latex and viscoelastic foam offer similar feel, many people have had to switch to latex, because they cannot abide the smell from their memory mattress. The final benefit that latex offers over visco foam is in the surface feel of the bed. Latex has a slightly higher internal density and feels firmer than memory foam.
While both a latex bed and a memory foam bed will conform to the sleeper, those who prefer a firmer mattress feel find the latex mattress to be more comfortable and familiar than memory foam. It is worth noting that in many cases the internal layers of a memory foam bed and a latex bed are very similar. It is rare to find 100% latex or 100% memory foam beds. In both mattresses the top layer is combined with internal layers of high-density foam that offers more support. It is important to have this combination a take advantage of the properties of both types of foam.
In more highly engineered beds, there are many layers of different types and formulations of foam that blend the conforming feel and internal support to create a perfect sleep surface.
